Who is CARF?
Founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Services, CARF International is a non-profit accreditor of human service providers in the areas of aging services, behavioural health, child and youth services, employment and community services and medical rehabilitation, amongst others. The CARF family of organizations currently accredits more than 5,500 providers at more than 19,000 locations on five continents. More than 7.2 million persons of all ages are served annually by CARF-accredited providers.
CARF accreditation demonstrates a program’s quality, transparency, and commitment to the satisfaction of the persons served. CARF International is an independent, not-for-profit accreditor of human service providers in the areas of Aging Services, Behavioral Health, Child and Youth Services, Durable Medical Equipment, Employment and Community Services, Medical Rehabilitation, and Opioid Treatment Programs. What is Accreditation?
Accreditation is a process that demonstrates a provider has met standards for the quality of its services. CARF establishes these standards to guide providers in offering their services. CARF also uses the standards to evaluate how well a provider is serving people and how it can improve.
What is a CARF Survey?
As a step toward accreditation, a provider invites CARF to send a team of professionals, called surveyors, to visit its site and evaluate its services for quality. The surveyors consult with staff members and interview people who use the provider’s services. Based on the surveyors’ review, the provider may be awarded CARF accreditation for one or three years. In some cases, the provider may need to improve its services before it can become accredited.
Inclusion Powell River is Accredited – Next Survey will be early 2020
Inclusion Powell River is required by our funders to be accredited. In 2004 Inclusion Powell River achieved its first three year accreditation with superlative results. The agency went on to establish ongoing practices that adhere to CARF’s stringent standards. In 2007 and 2010, Inclusion Powell River again received a three year accreditation. Inclusion Powell River did a green survey. We demonstrated compliance to the CARF standards with electronic links to examples of our work on our Sharevision Website. We are proud to have completed another successful survey. We really appreciate the staff and volunteers who contribute so much to making Inclusion Powell River an organization that provides quality supports. http://inclusionpr.ca/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/CARF-survey-report-2017.pdf Our next step is to file a report to CARF on how we will comply with the recommendations they have made and to review the suggestions brought forward by the surveyors, with the goal of continuous improvement.
