FROM CHRISTINE TOWNLEY, INCLUSION POWELL RIVER COMMUNITY CONNECTOR:
I am organizing a speed friending event and I would greatly appreciate all my inclusion Powell River colleagues chatting with the folks they support about attending this – it is FREE, easy and fun.
I would also greatly appreciate all the other wonderful non iPR staff encouraging anyone they support or anyone they know to attend this worthwhile event. This is a great opportunity for people of all ages, abilities and categories – do you know someone bored, shy, isolated, lonely, new in town???
There is nothing to lose by giving this a try. The invite is not exclusive to people with support staff – this is meant to be a community event so people can meet as many other people as possible – it is PEOPLE FIRST ORIENTED with the intention of allowing folks a few minutes to get to know one another enough to decide if they would like to pursue further communication. That is all. Simple. No pressure. No strings. No commitments. Just possibilities.
I do need to mention it is laid out in a fashion where traditional speech will likely be necessary this time around as it is very similar to speed dating where people have a few minutes to ask and answer questions then move on.
I intend to do a small series of these events at different dates and times to accommodate as many schedules as possible. In the future I may be able to expand on the idea to include more individuals with different communication styles as well.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me spread the word. If you would like a poster to hang somewhere you think I may not have thought of please let me know. Also, please feel free to forward this email to anyone or any groups you feel may be interested. I realize that some of you that I have invited are from out of town so please let me know if there is anything I can do to assist with travel from the ferry to the Arc (the location of the event) and back. I have tried to accommodate ferry schedules to and from the lower Sunshine Coast this time around – unfortunately accommodating the island ferry is not as simple. BUT – if we have any island folks interested I assure you we can provide something else to do with your time after the event until the next ferry. Thanks everyone, I appreciate your time reading this email, considering attendance and hope to see many of you out ‘SPEED FRIENDING’
